Since 1968, Center at 353 has been serving residents of the greater Princeton community.

Center at 353, formerly Trinity Counseling Service, was originally founded by The Rev. E. Rugby Auer to meet the mental health needs of his parishioners. In 1977, TCS incorporated as a private, not-for-profit 501 (c) 3, independent counseling service. Over the next 18 years, Rev. Auer and his Board of Trustees grew and strengthened the organization. Reverend Peter Stimpson was hired in 1989, and for the next 25 years, further developed and grew TCS.

Since that time, many thousands of individuals and families of all faiths and backgrounds have benefited from our mental health services. We provide individual, couples, family, and group counseling and psychotherapy services. In addition, we work closely with area schools including Princeton, West Windsor – Plainsboro, Cranbury School, and the Princeton Nursery School to provide mental health and wellness services to our community’s most vulnerable children and their families.

For 48 years, TCS was located on the grounds of Trinity Church at 22 Stockton St. In 2019, as a result of a successful Capital Campaign, we purchased and fully renovated 353 Nassau Street.

Center at 353 is licensed by the State of New Jersey. Center at 353 does not receive any State or Federal funding. Our highly experienced, licensed clinicians work with every client to develop personalized therapeutic plans to help clients achieve personal goals.

Center at 353 treats children, adolescents, adults and seniors and accept most major insurances including Aetna, BCBS, Medicare, and Princeton Theological Seminary insurance. We process out-of-network insurance. We have a sliding scale and provide grant-funded care to those who qualify; our fundraising is focused on closing the gap between what clients are able to pay (including the gap in insurance reimbursement) and our cost of service. There are many special things that set us apart from other organizations and practitioners including that no one is turned away due to lack of financial resources. When people call for support, every call is returned, and our intake coordinator works with prospective clients to match them with the right clinician to meet their needs - either at Center at 353 or with another mental health provider or agency in the community. We are here to help.

Center at 353 exists to serve our community’s mental health needs. Call us at  609-924-0060 if you would like to discuss with us whether we could help you achieve your mental health goals.
